How about

1. Putting them all in a folder, instead cluttering up the root of the
website
2. Providing support for both "user_common" and user_classes file for us to
insert our own common elements
3. Putting the projects connection class(es) into one (separate) file
instead of rewriting the "Common" file?

I couldn't agree more, espiciall about having a separate "developer_common" or "user_common" file for our-selves...

including putting the connection_string outside in it's own connection.asp file or something.

One almost always needs to or wants to modify the connection string or use UDL files or what-ever and this messes up 're-generation' on common.asp whenever we get a CCS update.

Thanks DonB

The concept of user_common and user_classes would be a great help and would save much unseemly hacking about in the CCS generated files.

That option would make CCS project a much easier to edit/debug/manage. Excellent idea, hope YES Software can apply this feature soon. :-)
