In several places in CCS I find data type options of "Session" and "Application". Is there a difference? Where in documentation are these explained? It seems to generate the same code.

Langston,

Sessions and Applications are not features of CCS but are features of the techonologies we support (like ASP, PHP, etc.) and are described in their documentation. Since we support those technogies we allow users to specify if they want to use the Session variable or Application variable, etc. Unfortunately PHP doesn't support Application variables therefore the Session will be used instead. Only if you switch your project language for example to ASP then the ASP Application variable would be used.
