During the process of php files being edited
behind the scenes several instances of
the same HTML file start appearing in the project
explorer under the 'File' tab selection:
(i.e. ~Register0.html)
What are these files?
Also, I constantly receive the message that
the php code has been modified outside
of the editor and do I want to reload it?
Is there a way to prevent these messages altogether
and just reload the source automatically.
Always having to confirm to reload these files is annoying.

Kevin,
Those files are the unsaved versions of the pages you are editing, so that if you close the page without saving then your original page stays unmodified. MS Word and many other programs also create similar files while you're editing something.
The message you see usually means that the publishing folder is the same as your project folder, which is wrong. In Project -> Settings -> Server Path you should specify the path to your Web server, which must be different from your current project's folder.

Thankyou - that fixed that problem, probably others as well.
