I do not own CCS, but am thinking of buying the product. It seems to me the one missing ingredient is a debugger. SInce CCS works with so many languages, the best thing would probably be if CCS integrated with existing debuggers.

Does anyone use a debugger with CCS? If so, how to you avoid cutting and pasting huge chunks of code into a seperate environment when you want to debug something?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,
I deleted your previous message to avoid double-posting.
Since no one responded to that one I'm assuming that not many people use debuggers. I myself don't use a debugger and do not find a need for it, especially when using CCS.
There are also no debugger requests in our user Wishlist forum: http://forums.codecharge.com/forum.php?forum_id=22
Let's see if others have a different opinion.

Peter R - Thanks for getting rid of the other post.

I was thinking that a debugger might be really good for dealing with the custom code.

Perhaps what you are saying is that the custom code needed si relatively simple, so the debugger wouldn't give one a lot of mileage in that arena.

I am going to age myself here, but I used to code a lot in PowerBuilder in the mid 90's. I liked that environment because I am really a database guy first and I liked the idea of getting the most possible out of the database.

I tried to do all the heavy lifting in the database, and the code was pretty straightforward. Howeer, even then, I found a debugger useful for the rare cases when I made a mistake :-)

Thanks,

Bill MacLean

My personal opinion could be biased due to my association with CCS, however I also used debuggers in the past for Windows programming in VB and Delphi but for some reason didn't think much about this when using CCS. Possible reasons:
- there is not much coding in CCS
- PHP and ASP error messages often provide enough details
- many PHP issues are due to server configuration (sessions, cookies, etc.) and I don't see as many issues related to programming
- "debugger" sounds like an advanced feature but I used it only to print values of the variables, which in CCS can be easily done using simple methods as described at http://docs.codecharge.com/studio/html/ProgrammingTechn...yingOutput.html

On another hand I'm assuming that if I used a debugger for ASP or PHP then I could find some benefits to it, especially running a Web script line-by-line.
For now though until we see CCS users saying that they cannot live without it and requesting such feature then we probably will focus on other things first. A debugger or debugger integration is actually on our list of possible future improvements.
