Enum Value in Search Results Grid

I have an enumerated value in my search results grid. When the value is a 1 I would like certain text to appear and when 2 is the value of the field I would like other text to appear. The only way to do this is to utilize the before show event for the label field. Is this correct or am I missing some property for this field.
