On a recent project the requirement has been to make the system scalable, to allow for the application to live on several machines - a server farm. Not knowing how to do this with the PHP/mySQL platform, I started looking into the java/jsp platform, and the Coldfusion platform because that can tie into both java components and also the CF application is explicitly capable of handling a multi-server environment.

One major question that came up with PHP was how to handle session variables when the application is spread out over multiple servers, and I learned this can be done by putting the session variables in a database instead of letting PHP handle them in memory - but I don't know yet how to implement this.

In the end I gave up on the question because I had no time for the learning curve...

I suspect YesSoftware knows how to do this and already does this on their own backend.

I wish YS could address this issue in their tutorials and documentation and possibly incorporate database driven session variables as an option. The advantage to this is that CCS could then be sold as something that can handle enterprise level applications and not just the small to medium sites - i.e. those that live on only one server. YS addresses that issue somewhat with the documentation on how to integrate with Weblogic, Websphere, etc., but those are java based, and many PHP sites have grown to require multiple servers and since it is a major programming language it would be nice if CCS could address the multi-server issue for PHP.

Thanks!
