I have used the the sample found at http://support.codecharge.com/kb_article.asp?article_id=61.

I find it lacking in robustness.

I cannot find anything in any of the forums that address this topic without going way outside of CCS?

Are you folks planning to work on this subject?

Thanks
Andrew

The method presented there is not a feature of CCS. It is just an example of one method that can be used with CCS, while you can utilize many other approaches. Especially if you can do something by going outside of CCS then usually you can do this in CCS as well. The example you referred to is a proof of that.
There are many ways to implement dependent listboxes therefore please describe one that works for you outside of CCS or that you found elsewhere and consider robust. Then it may be a good idea to discuss it on another forum regarding its specific implementation within CCS.

We probably cannot create examples for every possible situation in software development but will be happy to consider creating additional examples when at least several users request something specifc.

Hi Peter,
I think that we are all after something very similar. So to add my 5c's worth. I see the common aspects as this.
-Lists to be driven by the database.
-Each list generated by a group of records in a table, each record contains 1 description column and 1 ID column and 1 Group ID
-Each subsequent list contains 1 description field 1 ID and 1 Group ID
and so on.
So in a hierarchical format the top list box is selected first and thus defines what will be displayed in the next list by means of association via the common group ID's.
There need be no limit to the number of dependants or to the nature of the relationships. So list box 2 can be a subset of 1 and list box 3 can be a subset of 2 but list box 4 can be a subset of 1 (or what ever).
Any examples need to show use in a search situation and a submit situation.
I have implemented the "refresh on change" type of list box option but it is not robust enough and by the time all options are selected the page has refreshed up to 4 times. The approach I want to take ( and I'm not alone) is to build the page once with all options and that's that. It might take twice the time to load but better that, than to have the page die during a refresh or to refresh multiple times.

I have a working demo at http://www.partsfinder.co.nz/Sample_Request_Add.asp But as you can see the "refresh onchange event" is not very clever. All of the possible options should be loaded the first time in an array then once the page is loaded the process cant fail.

I would happily pay for this enhancement or a working example.

I have seen the suggested method showed at http://www.atgconsulting.com/oodynlistbox.asp and that is what I (like others) would like but as for getting that working in a CCS environment ....... well Im not alone in feeling like it would be easier to fly to the moon!

Regards
Andrew

The good news is that Rob (another CCS user) already created an example based on another method from that same Website:
http://forums.codecharge.com/posts.php?post_id=45962
Not sure if you seen it?

Another good news is that we're also working on examples that will not require page refresh at all, or at least I've been pushing for it and seen some progress made (we need to implement it in all programming languages, do some testing, assure that it can work with several listbox levels, multiple web browsers, etc.)

And another good news is that you will happily pay for it, therefore please contact me via our support and I will give you the address where to mail the check :-) ... Nah, I'll do what I can anyway, as we've seen this topic discussed numerous times.

Ahhhhh Peter this news is truly sounding good. If you ever find yourself in New Zealand I will buy you a beer and that would be worth more than anything I could have paid you! 8-)

Yes, Indeed this is great news Peter.

Right now I've implemented the Dependent List Box Plug-in from RexDesign
http://ccs.ath.cx/

Alas it only works with two selections, but it was fine for what I needed.

I think andash has really stated well what I was going for. Some are more eloquent than others :-)

I have built a class to handle this now. I haven't had time to redo the example but I will shortly.

Hi Peter,
I was just wondering what the status was on this? I would love to see a solution such as this. I'm sure others would echo this sentiment.

Best Regards,
George
