I am attempting to create an e-commerce application and things have run
smoothly until recently.
The products for sale have unique properties. Using the bookstore
application, it is simple because you choose the book you want and that is
it.
What if your product is clothing for example and someone chooses a
particular coat. That particular coat has it's own sizes.
Using a separate colour table will allow the user to choose from a listbox
containing all colours available for all products and not just the
individual product desired.
How can I achieve this.

you would create a new table
id, category_id, colour
then you could make a wizard page to admin this table, you could use
different category_id and related colours depending on whether a male coat
was available in blue/black/grey and a different category_id female coat was
available in red/brown/grey etc
this would then just need a lookup/listbox from any page, looking up by ID ,
and using the category_id of the clothing to select the correct range of
colours
