Does anyone have any input on using CodeCharge Studio VS Visual Studio.NET?
I am interested in ASP.NET. Any opinions welcomed.

Before I begin let me point out that there are some fundamental differences
between VS.NET and CCS (Code Charge Studio).
VS.NET is a full IDE with a debugger and several editors.
CCS basically a code generator with an in-built code editor, so its
difficult to make 1 to 1 comparison .. so I am listing out some key points
where I feel CCS helps...

1) In VS.NET you create an application by starting from scratch, putting
each component together, setting the database classes etc...
In CCS u develop Web Applications the RAD way and assemble higher level
components like Grid's - Record Forms etc ... its much faster ...

2) For ASP.NET CCS generates an n-tire code pattern as per Microsoft
guidelines and best practices. Hence we have a separate UI Layer, Business
Components, Data Layer etc...
Hence U get manageability, performance and scalability in CCS generated
applications ..

Building these manually in VS.NET for each application would take you ages
.... trust me !!

3) Though VS.NET includes a HTML Designer, it definitely lacks the
advancement's required to qualify as a "web designers" tool .. its still a
programmers tool. Hence there is very poor HTML Designer in VS.NET ...
CCS in-built Design editor too has limited support, but it integrates with
MS FrontPage to give you the full power of a Web Designing tool ... Hence
you get enhanced designer support also ...

(And before anyone starts a thread of FrontPage sucks,DW rules ... plz
that's not the point of this post ;) )

4) The good thing about CCS is that it generates Code in VS.NET Project
format, so in case you need additional debugging support etc .. you can
easily use the pages generated in CCS from within VS.NET without any hitches
....

5) Also remember the multi-lingual capability of CCS .. you design the
project in one programming language, and you can convert the project
directly into another language (of course manually added code needs to be
changed..) ... Ex: Create the project in ASP currently and then convert it
to ASP.NET !!

6) Also I believe CCS abstracts out the complexities of the new language ..
for example in any language use are generating your application you still
use the Grid or Record Wizard... use high-level controls like advanced
navigators, sorting, Login forms etc ...
Its very generic .. and easy to learn ..
Of Course to write custom code you need to understand the language .. still
the application design process is very simple ..

In VS.NET u have to deal with objects specific to .NET like the DataGrid,
DataSet's etc ...

Well Said
I agree totally. I am using ccs to learn c# and man does it help. Studio dot
net got me nowhere fast but it can be helpful i am sure once i understand c#
more. By the way does any know how to add a poll feature in c# to the portal
example? I would love to do it but alas more reading...
