Hi,

I posted this problem a while back, but then got diverted on to other work and just got back to my
"learn CCS project".

I have lots of database/SQL experience, and "traditional" programming, but just about no GUI/windows
development experience. So the entire environment is new to me, as well as the actual product.

I'm using, for now, the free Apache web server, MySQL database and PHP (v4).

My first problem is that the Application Builder in CCS doen't work - it fails to detect all the
files in my database, and shows only some of them. A *big* problem, not least since my user_id file
is one of those it fails to detect, and so I can't complete the security set-up in Application
Builder. It also misses out other files from the pull down list.

I want to use Application Builder, since having no real familiarity with either CCS or other similar
products, I want to get a working application in my environment, on my system and with my database -
so I can really see how things hang together. Is there a fix for this problem? I'm using the
evalaution version 2.0.5.6.

NB: Please don't suggest I try this in another combination such as Access/ASP etc., I'm not familiar
with them, and just don't have the time to install, learn, and recode in abother DB etc..

ALSO .... is the CCS supplied tutorial the best learning tool for learning CCS? Or is there a
better training option? (eg. Is there a training video?)

I can't do the CCS supplied tuotorial anyway, because of this problem with it not picking up all
files from a database in Application Builder! Means I can't learn Application Builder from the CCS
tutorial, and without that presumably can't progress to more advanced topics.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance

There have been a few reports of tables not appearing in CCS. I know Yes is
aware of this, but I am not sure what the resolution is (or if there truly
IS one). IThis should be reported to Yes at http://support.codecharge.com.
I know they are familiar with this behavior and they can fill you in on the
details.

Personally, I don't use the application builder, I prefer to use the grid,
record, etc. Builders on a blank page. I kept finding that I wanted things
to work differently from the way the all-encompassing Application builder
did things, and usually I spent a fair amount of time undoing and moving and
so on.

I am not aware of other training aids, just the tutorials. You really do
need a background in web applications (e.g., understanding of how PHP works)
to be productive. CCS will not completely isolate you from the code
aspects, except in very basic applications.

OK ... but as I'm *learning* CCS from scratch, I'm not in a position to start bypassing the
application builder (eg. I don't yet know how to use the grid builder by itself ... I want to
understand the product, and the tutorial takes me through the application builder - at this stage,
it's not as if I know how to do anything else.

Doubtless the tutorial will take me throught to other more sophisticated things - but first I need
to get through the real basics.

OK. I didn't expect CCS would eliminate the need for any PHP coding - just that it would help
develop code I can then hack around.
