In the standard code, HTML code is embedded within the JSP code. In the templates version, HTML code resides in separate HTML files (called templates) which are opened and parsed by the JSP code to produce the page that is sent to the browser. The tempaltes make it easier to alter the layout using any standard HTML editor without messing with JSP code.
