You are welcome. I am actively (frantically) looking for alternatives.

From what I can tell from the trial, it is very young and has a few bugs. But it does have a lot of features and still looks promising.

They have a long way to go still, more robust client/server event handling, parameter passing between forms, and a host of other things that CCS offers right out of the box, are not yet present - but they are on the right track. :)

Here are seven others, which use a different technology stack, but provide the functionality expected for a serious low-code RAD development environment.

The 2 products that I'm using and work well are

CodeOnTime for .Net/C#
for ... PHP

CodeOnTime can build Enterprise level applications and far surpasses CodeCharge ... although I like CodeCharge UI/IDE much better.

/.Net are great and easy to work and the new version 10 (beta) will basically give you everything that CodeCharge has/had.

PHPRunner v10 (BETA) trial:

By the way . . . why the strange URL? :-)

Tried the beta 10 release of PHPRunner , it did nothing but hang up during execution on our Windows 10 machine. We will wait until a final release comes out before attempting again.

I've been using for years now after codecharge development stopped. It's an excellent alternative and support is phenomenal. Ver 10 is a very ambitious update and was only recently released to production. It's still buggy. Try a trial of version 9.8 to get a better feel for the product.

We're hoping your responses and examples of actual product usage can help alleviate our
current skepticism with this product.

The following areas seem to be limited , but we're hoping you can clarify each:
1. Pre-built server-side/client-side event handling action methods.
2. Parameter passing via GET/POST between data forms.
3. Selective page form building (i.e. build customer input form only, not entire application when an application build request is performed)

4. Modifying client-side page template (i.e. via page template variables) prior to page loading.

Please provide us some screen-shots of applications you have actually with PHPBuilder (with confidential information blurred/removed of course).

Also, provide online documentation references where the above points are addressed in .

Thankyou.

Tried the most recent release today - Version 10.

Still somewhat buggy, but appears to have good potential (i.e. application crashes when defining SQL query without assigning alias name to query expression - i.e. 'select .... format(salary,2)' instead of 'select .... format(salary,2) as salary'.

Version 10 has the features we are looking for - we will wait till more of the bugs have been addressed.

Reviews are hard to come by, but here are two which are unfortunately too true.

Ok I use both CodeOnTime and .Net (and CodeCharge … although no new development since 2015).

Version 10 and version 9.8 are the same with 1 difference … the ability to create multiple target page(s) (i.e. different versions of Insert form … or Edit). You could do that prior to 10 but had to jump over a fence :)

With 10, in view that you can have multiple target page(s), they crated a form "painter" which is looking good … although still needs some work.

If you want to do production work, use 9.8 for now.

There is nothing like CodeCharge out there …. but there are alternatives that can do the job very well.

BTW, CodeOnTIme is incredible but you need to abide by their framework "rules" … the end result are extremely powerful LOB apps.

Are you happy with the performance of your CodeOnTime applications, and can you create custom pages that integrate charting capabilities from 3rd-Party vendors into the client-side using JavaScript/Angular/React (i.e. HighCharts, FusionCharts).

CodeOnTime performance is fine ... you can integrate with 3rd party with no problem (like any .Net) ... their Charting capabilities are based on Google's https://developers.google.com/chart/

The difference with CodeOnTime is their IDE ... very different that what is out there but at the end it works. I do know that they are working on a new form painter/editor and hopefully will enhance the product.

I prefer CodeOnTime if I need to do an application that adheres to Universal WIndows Application ... which CodeOnTime new "Theme" is what is all about. You can download a 30 days for free ...

Let me know if you have any other questions

Where PHPRunner and COT limit flexibility, is deciding what forms are generated based on a schema relationship - CCS allows mapping a schema, or custom query, to forms of the developer's choice.

COT also allows form creation from custom query. Also allows views as a form if you declare a primary key. etc. etc. Only difficult thing is changing the look and feel.
