Anyone heard any news regarding CodeCharge and a possible upgrade with real progress on capabilities and features?

The company is so quiet. Are they done?

ASPMaker and continue to develop and get better. Codecharge is stable and fast, but is falling behind.

Anyone have any news?

Codecharge has not been updated since October 2013, so it does not look good.

They are not working on this project for sure. Version 5.1.1 is barely working. They could have patched it up to usable levels in weeks but did not bother.

I agree. Codecharge has been declining since version 4.3 released in 2009/2010.

It's so sad. Have people moved to other tools? Alternatives? Something better?

It is pretty surprising that the people from Code Charge don't respond in these forums. I am a long term users with many pieces of strategic software on the 4.3 platform....I bought 5.1, but you all make it sound so scary I am not changing yet.

If anyone gets any news let us know...Thanks

I have to agree with Oper - I've got 3 major (for me) projects in 5.1, and an old one in 4.3 (yet to need enough changes to be worth updating), some in PHP, some in ASP.NET - THAT'S where the power of CCS shines, jumping between technologies and having the same interface is really nice.

Upgrades of Projects from CCS4.3 to 5.1 have a few minor gripes (usually to do with Prototype JS stuff hanging around instead of new jQuery) but nothing huge, really.

But I'm not sure where the 'barely working' idea comes from - there are problems but I've never found them to be impossible to solve. Biggest issue I think was the Windows 8.1 and IE 11 stuff from late 2013. Kept me on Win 7 but that's been a benefit as far as I'm concerned.

The "barely working" idea comes from the fact that It is not possible to work with the tool without constant fear of crashes and code mix-ups. I have to back up the project several times a day so that in case I have to redo something due to application errors, I have a working base. The wizards lock up when selecting certain combination of options and these are not obscure selections, but plain addition of where and order by statements.

Inserting simple form components like drop-down boxes into existing objects mess up the internal code structure of the pages so that CC will not recognize any of the other objects on the page making them unusable and impossible to publish.

Deleting HTML code that was created with a wizard through the code editor will also mess up CC. It throws the usual object not found do you want to delete the associated code question, but it never does delete the code. It will ask it every time you want to publish.

Adding an upload component to a modal window is not prohibited in the editor, but as I had to find out from Support, the actual internal workings have never been implemented so it doesn't generate a working code.

A lot of people on these forums, including myself tested these all out and documented to support, but nothing happened.

I understand that there are workarounds but a tool is only useful if it saves time. I have gotten to the point where the workarounds cost so much time that it doesn't worth using the tool.

I have suggested before and bring it up again ... If YES would be willing to license the source or make it available for open-source development, I could see this taking off. They would have to figure out how they would get further money out of it, but the way I see it, it is not making too much now.

I read up a little on YES and it seems like they got some initial Venture Capital to build CC 10-12 years ago. They built it and it probably didn't take off as much as the investor wanted, so they wrote it off. So with the capital gone, the money that is coming in now they are not able to finance future development.

So making it open-source would be the best.

There are alternatives to CC. Anyone using any? If so, what?

Looks like many crashes were once result of HDD disk caching.

Almost no lock-ups or crash since install SSD into computer.

Maybe for users with HDD, turn off disk caching and see what happen.

Alternatives - I'm in an odd position as I one of the main reasons I stick with CCS is because when I started I was using ASP ("classic") and liked the idea of switching between languages if needed.

I now have projects in ASP.NET and PHP and the common IDE is simpler for me when switching between them.

Sure - there have been crashes, mis-matched files, and dodgy code generation, but I've also tried several other tools and I'm willing to trade the speed CCS gives me against the occasional crash or hang.

Cheers

Eric

We have new employ and we are going to get another license to work on "4.3"

still no other tools has the power/easy of CCS out there
(Learning curve is a pain, but as soon you got the wave anything can be done!)

PS: we use like 80% of the time Classic ASP

Yessoftware does not produce any effort in communicating
We just wonder wether there still exit
It s a pity ,such a good product with clever goals. BUT small companies cannot afford to develop with technologies with uncertain future.
Back to VS , eclipse, even if it would take a moment to achieve equivalent performing solutions
Any Idea ???

Autumn 2005 CCS 3 arrived.
Early 2008 CCS 4 arrived.
Spring of 2012 CCS 5 arrived.

They keep the pace, but it looks like a slowmotion.

Let's hope, 2015 brings something to us.

Gotta add another plug for $crlptcase.
I love CCS, but the lack of support has me developing new solutions using that product.
Im afraid to develop something that I wont be able to support in the future with CCS.

I tried it and look quite good. The price level of a single licence prevents it to directly compare it to Code Charge.

Anyway, codecharge a good tool.

Alpha Anywhere is not equal CCS5.

Looks good but you have to buy a server side to run applications.

Bad to me...

:(
