I have a lot of components built in CCS4 and am reluctant to make the switch just yet, for various reasons.
But I would like to update the look and feel of my current components to a more modern style.
Is it possible to style the CCS produced components without breaking them when I have to go in and edit and regenerate in CCS?

One way to update look and feel of components without breaking them: update styles.
You can use built-in examples from CCS5 or generate them manually, using tools like Artisteer (with installed 'CodeCharge Studio Export' plugin).
For a huge renewal of pages can be required some changes in the HTML structure (for compatibility with responsive web-design). If you act carefully - nothing is impossible.
