I want to create a grid that displays the record of the user who is logged in. how should i do it? i have a column that has a unique value for the user "user_id".

Look at the "Dynamically Modify the WHERE Clause" sample from help.
It adds a before build select event to the grid. You have to retrieve the user_id using the CCGetUserID function and pass it to the where clause.
