To my understanding, synchronising happens whenever you switch from HTML to Liveor Code. It's that depressing message you get that some control or form cannot be found in the HTML - which means the tags have become corrupted in some way. And you sadly have to close the page without saving and pick it up again from the last good version...

The Synchronize option in the menu is, I think, a way of triggering the same check.

I'd hoped that the tags had become even more robust in version 5 so that this wouldn't be necessary.

This is the version 4 help file about synchronisation generally:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Synchronize HTML and Programming Code
Because of the fields we deleted earlier, we need to synchronize the programming code so that it matches the HTML code. To do so:

Click on the Live Page tab.
A message window will be shown alerting you that some of the components were not found in the HTML.

Click Yes to confirm the removal of the columns and continue.
