I can no longer access my MS SQL Server DB remotely due to contraints imposed by my web hosting service. So I need to put a copy local on my develop machine to do CCS development.
I have had nothing but trouble trying to load Microsoft products.
Can anyone recommend something simple and easy.
All I want is to be able to view the database from CCS.
My environment is Dell PC running Windows XP

man, I hate the little we-are-superior-attitude restrictions and has had something similiar a few times. Just a question if they won't allow you to access the DB via management studio, how are you supposed to change the database structure, work against live data etc.?

I have loaded SQL Server express. Sorry if I seem desne but I can't figure out how to create a new local database and then restore a backup of my hosted database.
Hosted database backup is dbname.bak sitting 'my documents'

I had a similar issue and was not able to restore from the hosted bak file because of some discrepancy in the file name of the log (it looked the same to me but the MSSQL didn't like it). Here is my work around... my host has an option to "Generate Insert scripts" so i did that for each table in my hosted DB then ran the scripts locally. If I need to update tables on the hosted side I use the MS database publishing wizard to script my local tables and run the SQL to updated the hosted tables.
