I am looking for direction on reading a weight scale (RS-232) from the client side (web browser) using CodeCharge Studio 4.3 with PHP. The web application needs to read the scale attached to the local RS-232 port of a windows PC. I can read the scale on the server-side with PHP but do not know how to get it from the local PC port.

Can this be done with Ajax in CodeCharge or do I need to find a 'java' solution? Any pointers to source/examples?

How do you do that?

Use the system execute command to execute a command script get the /dev/ttySx stream into a file and then PHP to read the file. If speed is an issue, then set up a small RAM-DRIVE.

Hi,

To do this usually I use the Software Bill Redirect... It's sample to use and really stable ! This resident software can communicate directly with your scale (RS-232, USB, TCP ...) and display the weight in your web application on the field you want ! You can also via HTML TAG request the weight when you want.

To do this you must install on the client side the software Bill Redirect and the Browser Plugin.

You can found the software and all documentation in this page:
