Seemingly simple question regarding a generated number

I've perused the forums pretty thoroughly, so I apologize if there was something similar to this already.

I have a Purchase Order page that I am trying to generate a PO number from a combination of two things.

The first is the selected location, or job.

And the second is an auto increment number that is specific to that job.

So somehow I need it to autofill\autocomplete and place in the PO Number field:

Selected Job Number+Count of Selected Job Number.

An example would be:

User can select 0001, 0002, or 0003 as a job.
The user then selects Job 0001.

If there was one previous purchase order for that job then it would then return and save the PO Number 0001-0002

Any help on this, or points in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks

Good news I've got it working, bad news, for some reason my list boxes are now no longer populated with the information from the fields in my database...

I'll try to post the solution to my problem once the next long weekend rolls around.

I'd like to know how you did incremental numbers.
